Smart Home Electrical Project Hampshire

Our client appointed us to design and install a complete smart home electrical solution for their contemporary new build house in Hampshire. Havi are based in Lymington and work throughout Hampshire & Dorset.

The Smart Home Project

Our client already had a list of key technology they wanted integrating within their smart home project from the outset, but it was also a requirement that additional infrastructure was in place for scalability and future additions. Seeing the benefit of using one company, Havi was contracted to carry out all the initial design and specification work and then carry out the installation and commissioning of both the smart home technology and electrical installation.

Minimalist Smart Home

Our clients home is very modern and minimalist. We were instructed to provide a complete lighting scheme which complimented the architecture of the spaces. Our lighting designer specified trim-less, or plastered-in, fittings throughout to maintain the contemporary frame-less look. LED tape was hidden within the architecture and furniture. Providing multiple “Layers” of light, complemented with a Helvar DALI control system, provided the client with numerous different scene options.

Energy Efficiency Within The Automated Home

Energy efficiency was key to this project. Along with the all-LED lighting and an intelligent lighting control system, other smart technology was installed. We installed zoned smart thermostats throughout to operate the underfloor heating. These thermostats can be controlled remotely by the customers phone so heating can be adjusted daily to reflect the clients routine.

Solar Panels Incorporated Into The Smart Home

Solar PV panels were installed on the roof to generate electricity, which we attached a smart immersion heater controller to. This automatically heats the hot water when surplus electricity is being generated by the PV system – providing free hot water. Currently, the revenue produced from the government’s feed-in tariff for the electricity generated by the system covers the cost of the electricity which is used from the grid.

Audio Visual System

Our client had specific requirements for the audio visual system. A TV media room was requested with a dedicated surround sound system. Music distribution  in a number of living rooms and bedrooms was also requested, with the option to expand on this in future. Our team provided SONOS Amp’s as the music servers enabling the client to access both their personal music collection and online streaming services from their mobile devices.

Wiring For The Smart Home

To complement the above, we designed and installed a wiring infrastructure which enabled all the AV entertainment sources to be stored remotely in a rack, but which the client could view and control at each TV location. In addition, a full integrated reception system (IRS) is distributed to every room which enables local hook up of a TV, SKY box, FM and DAB radios providing an alternative option.

Finally we installed a CAT6 network throughout to all rooms and complemented this with a robust and reliable managed WiFi system.
